Melanie Kidder, President
Melanie is back as Present of The Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton after fulfilling a 10-year term and then taking a break for 2 years. So, she’s officially been back since April of 2025.
She also previously served on the original CAM Advisory Committee.
Melanie has decades of experience in programming for children and youth including specialized training in best practices for after school programs.
She was motivated to get involved as a Board member with RRSE because she felt the original Board members had a brilliant concept of creating an opportunity for youth to get free rock, pop and contemporary music lessons, they just didn't have the knowledge about how to put it in practice. Melanie got involved in 2011 and that’s when she and the rest of the Board made some critical decisions that led to the current model of the CAM program. Me says, “When I first heard of their idea, I knew that I had some expertise to offer”.
Her asked who her favourite local bands/musicians , she answers “Chrome, Chronic Rock, Shaguar, Rockford Stomp......I could go on and on. We have so many amazing local bands!”
And Melanie thinks the best rockstar/s of all time are Steven Tyler (her all time favourite). she loves his vocal range. Mel comes from a small town, so she connects with a lot of John Mellencamp and CCR songs too.
When we asked her in which way/s are you (or were you) a badass? She had this to say:
“My part time job is as a group fitness instructor. Pound Fitness is a format using drumsticks to hit the floor while doing lunges or squats. All songs in the class are rock music! I love that I get to combine my love of rock music and fitness! And when I'm on stage teaching that class, I do feel like a badass!!”
