Hear From Our Participants

What kind of opportunities have you had in the CAM Program that you might not have otherwise had?

Playing the drums and keyboard, as well as participating in open houses and talent shows at my school.

Being able to perform in front of crowds and further helped me and my band to become more

independent and getting our own shows to perform.

I would not have been able to perform in front of others as much as I do.

I have been introduced to an entirely new type of music and given insight on writing my own music.

The opportunity to make friends in a musical environment.

What do you like best about the CAM Program?

I love working as a team to play music and I love playing music as a group or as a band.

Learning new songs, and making our own! As well as all the cool musicians and songs I

discover.

That a lot of different people can come together and we can all make music together.

How we get to play and learn with others. Also that we can spend time with others we probably wouldn't have met.

Overall it’s a great experience. You play music. Learning music. It’s not something you would expect to be doing. It’s just not something you would ever do in school and it provides a great experience for music. I know I fell in love with music after I joined the CAM Program. I just spent all my free time playing music, practicing, and it’s really changed my life.

It’s a good way for young people to get into music. It’s an opportunity to start learning and can turn into something bigger later in life.

YOUTH

PARENTS

What do you like best about the CAM Program?

I have noticed a very drastic change in my child because of this program, for the better.

I like how excited (my daughter) is for school and to participate.

It has inspired my son to try things beyond drums – bass guitar and singing!

My child became more confident.

The excitement that my child shows now that she is in a program like this with friends.

Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level, the kid’s preferences are encouraged (song choices) that it’s right after school, at the school so she can just stay.

CAM is Fun Fun Fun as compared to anything else I’ve seen.

I’m really enjoying watching her grow with music and the opportunities she has had with concerts has been so amazing. Thank you for everything the CAM program does.

SCHOOL STAFF

What do you like best about the CAM Program?

I like that it’s so chill and relaxed. I’ve gone over to watch them play and play with them – the kids are engaged, they want to be there. This program connects them to school.
The concerts are really important. It’s nice to have them, it gives the students something to look forward to and deadlines to meet. They have to get their songs in shape before the concert. Many of our students have anxiety and it’s so great to see them go up on stage and have that experience. It showcases their work, they get to have photos taken, their families can be there.
The instructors are such good people. They’re very accommodating. They really fit with our program. They don’t worry about the number of kids in attendance (even at the concert) they just say “we’ve got this many – let’s play”

If it wasn’t for CAM we wouldn’t be able to offer a music program at all. We bus the kids over to one site where there’s a music room/program. We don’t have the expertise to offer this program. They don’t want traditional music programs. When they hear it’s rock music then they’re interested. When they hear they can be in a rock band without having any experience, they’re excited. Many of them are scared to start school but then they join CAM and they’re making new friends – recently, they even volunteered at the school – (CAM) is a real confidence builder.
