Christina McKay, Director
This is my Christina’s first experience on a non-profit Board, although she’s volunteered for the Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton off and on since 2014. She’s done various tasks from checking in the VIP’s at Rockfest to bartending at hall parties. Though she’s never been on a Board, she was an “all in” parent with the school and soccer programs from snack mom to fundraising.
More recently, Christina was involved with the Woman of Edmonton Harley Davidson Calendar as Miss December 3 years in a row. This initiative supported the Kipness Center, a seniors home for Veterans and she was also in the Women of Rock Calendar as Miss March supporting the Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton.
Christina was motivated to join the Board because she says because “I would like to try and do my part in helping the Society and all it supports.”
When asked who her favourite local musician/s are, she answers “We are fortunate enough to have so many wonderful musicians in this city. My favourite is Mike Braniff. (He’s) the hardest working musician I know. I'd like to mention Percy Marshall too for sharing the 2017 Rockfest stage with me. My two favorite bands are obviously Chrome and my girl, Deanna Blaquiere and Chronic Rock.”
She has a harder time choosing her favourite rock star/musician of all time and says “It would be impossible for me to name but only one favorite band. I have many for as many reasons. I just LOVE music in different ways and forms.”
We knew that Christina was a badass when, once upon a time she joined the Band Persons of Interest in 2015. Todd Crawshaw asked them to open Rockfest 2017. It was one of the best gigs Persons of Interest ever had.
Christina has a big heart and will go to the ends of the Earth to fight for family, friends, and the causes she is passionate about. She says “There are no back doors with me and I don't take any crap. Despite the barriers placed in front of me I trudged on, never letting go of my desire to be in a band and perform. Now I'm a rockstar and that makes me pretty badass!”
